The Best and Worst Looks at the 2018 Met Gala
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising party benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Exhibit. The 2018 exhibit is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Immigration. Many A list celebrities were in attendance and many were on their A game whereas others were lacking in respects to their outfits.
Blake Lively wore a decorative Versace ruby gown that was gold embroidered paired with a relatively ostentatious bracelet, matching red heels, and a tiara of sorts to top it all off. Personally, this dress was somewhat overwhelming due to the gold beads and excessively flowy skirt and train, but if anyone can pull it off, it would be Blake Lively.
Miley Cyrus wore a simple John Shearer black low V neck dress paired with simple gold necklaces, a bracelet, and rings. Although the dress was bland, Miley looked nothing less than perfect. The jewelry added a unique touch, and Cyrus’s makeup brought the entire look together.
Scarlett Johansson’s dress was excessive, yet beautiful. The gown was maroon embroidered with flowers transitioning into a light pink at the bottom. Her lipstick matched the dark red of the dress, and with Colin Jost, wearing an elegant black tux, at her arm, what is not to like?
Cara Delevingne certainly had the most interesting look of the night. She wore a revealing silk pantsuit paired with a braided headdress. This look was not my favorite, but Delevingne still managed to look amazing in her futuristic outfit. Zendaya also went with a more futuristic approach in a silver body suit that looked like something from Star Trek.
Kim Kardashian wore a lavish Versace gold dress that was simple yet a statement as it was embroidered on the sides and hips with several crosses to match the Catholic theme of the exhibit. Her silky dark hair was pulled back, and her makeup looked like that of Cleopatra. Kim K truly looked like a princess of the red carpet.
Cardi B’s outfit was definitely a statement piece as it looked like the outfit of a queen from a Disney movie. The Moschino dress was cream colored with gold embroidering and red and blue beads paired with a matching crown. The dress poofed out on the sides and had a leg slit as well. Although the dress was not my favorite, it certainly drew attention from the crowd, and sometimes publicity and attention is what really matters.
Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner matched perfectly on the red carpet. Scott wore an all black suit and Jenner wore a black gown with silver sunglasses. The pair looked amazing as they posed for the paparazzi. Kendall Jenner looked stunning as well in a white angelic pant suit with mesh sleeves and silver earrings.
Many other celebrities dressed to impress including Nick Jonas and Gigi Hadid whereas Jennifer Lopez and Emma Stone had interesting outfits. In this day and age, fashion is a way for celebrities to express themselves and get attention from the media. The more distinct and daring the piece, the better!
