NYC Eats: Buddakan

NYC Eats: Buddakan

Looking for a massive, high-end Asian dining experience with friendly staff and amazing food? If so, Buddakan in New York City is something to consider. Although there are countless restaurants in the Big Apple, Buddakan isnow an all time favorite.

Opening only last March, this new American Asian cuisine has skyrocketed to places all around the United States. This strange, two story landscape doesn’t feel like a resturant. Some might say it feels like an oversized nightclub, however once the food begins to arrive, the mood starts to change. Walking through the majestic doors, you almost forget you’re in the city and not an expensive getaway.

With a ceiling as tall as the Empire State Building, Buddha pictures showcased throughout, and servers who flood the floors and elegant oriental decor, Buddakan is a definite threat to restaurants nearby.

The mouthwatering food and outstanding mocktails are accessible for any occasion, like nights out with your closest friends or a family gathering. Personally, I attended for my camp friends sixteenth birthday, and it was the right decision.

Our party of eight was ushered down the palace like stairs to a round table with waiters ready  to seat us. Being eight hungry and impatient teenage girls, we tried almost everything on the menu. Within minutes, our orders were out on the table. From a casual Cucumber Roll to Chili Rock Shrimp, these dishes are guaranteed to fill you up. Not enough, however, because the desire for going back for seconds is unbearable. The savory taste of the spicy yet manageable shrimp is sprinkled with toasted ginger and pineapple chunks, evening out the spice. The texture of the shrimp is incomparable to any other I’ve consumed due to the crunchy outside but tender and chewy inside.

Being that the restaurant is two stories, the service was surprisingly impeccable. When a question was being presented from the menu, or a simple drink refill was needed, our waiter was always there to give a helping hand. However, because Buddakan is ginormous in size, it was hard to hear my friends on the opposite side of the table.

Although the food is pricey, it is definitely worth spending. Reservations are necessary weeks in advance because people are coming from all over to try this excellent food and view the decor.
