Over the last three weeks, Coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a severe impact on the lives of every individual throughout the United States. COVID-19 is an infectious disease which is caused by a new virus, which leaves people with symptoms that affect the respiratory system, and has led to death of many infected with the virus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are currently 277,355 confirmed cases of the disease in America, and 83,948 of these confirmed cases are in New York State. With Westchester County being a hotspot of the spread, the state government, local government, and school districts have taken necessary precautions to protect the lives of many. As the number of positive cases continues to rise, many government officials are doing what they can to slow the spread of the virus and protect their people. With the safety of the population of New York being a priority for Governor Andrew Cuomo, he is on various news channels daily to give the people information about the virus, what to do to stay safe, and updates on mandates that have been set forth for the people. “It’s hard to go through this all day, and then it’s hard to stay up all night, watching those numbers come in and the number of deaths tick up,” the governor said at his daily briefing in Albany this morning. Millions of individuals are now out of work and school, due to the stay at home orders that have been placed on the state. The stay at home mandates include closures of all non-essential businesses and restrictions of social contact. This has led to the closures of various parks around the county, leaving families with few opportunities to engage in outdoor activities. Focusing on the Katonah-Lewisboro School District and its towns, a once vibrant community has been left solitary and confined to home.
