Varsity Ice Hockey Launches New Season

On Friday, December 7th, the John Jay Ice Hockey team will face league rival Brewster/Yorktown in hopes of launching this season on the same strong trajectory as last year. The team is returning from amazing 2017/18 season in which it won the Section and Regional Championships and earned a berth in the coveted “Frozen Four” state semi-finals in Buffalo NY.

John Jay ended the 2017/18 season ranked #6 in New York State. The team again has high expectations. According to Coach Smith, “After graduating 11 players from last year’s team, we are excited for the younger players to get a chance to play. There will be a learning curve, but we are working hard and look forward to getting better and more cohesive as the season continues.”

Joining the team this season are several highly skilled freshmen, including Tyler Wishart, Anthony Protomastro, and Justin DeLucia, all of whom have a wealth of Tier 1 hockey experience and should be meaningful contributors from the outset.

Returning goalie phenoms, Eric Sassimovich, and Nick Petrella should anchor the defense and help keep the team in the running for the same success as last year.  The team anticipates another superb season. See you Friday at the Brewster Ice Arena!
