California Parents Caught Abusing 13 Children
One of the worst cases of child neglect and torture in recent American History has just been reported out of California. A district attorney of California described the horrors of the physical and emotional abuse charges Thursday against a Riverside County couple accused of keeping their 13 children captive and malnourished in their home. David Turpin, 56, and Louise Turpin, 49, are charged with 12 counts of torture. David Turpin is also charged with a terrible act on a child by force or fear of duress. The thirteen kids ages range from 2 to 29. Other charges for the parents include seven counts of abuse of a dependent adult, six counts of child abuse or neglect and 12 counts of false imprisonment.
The Turpins have each pleaded not guilty to all counts when they were arraigned on Thursday afternoon. A judge set their bail at $12 million for each defendant. If convicted of all the charges, they could face a maximum sentence of anything from 94 years to life in prison.
The allegations of the case only cover what has happened while the family has been living in California; However, it has been reported that this abuse has been going on for nearly 20 years and while the family previously lived in Texas.
