In a March loaded with miracles and closely challenged contests, Kansas has been the solitary No. 1 seed, looking completely dominant. In the first few days of the competition, Kansas has been outscoring opponents by 29+ points. They have also been shooting an outstanding 54.7% and out-rebounded opponents by a full 30 boards.

Frank Mason and the Jayhawks find themselves at a +475 favorite to win the tournament coming up into the Sweet 16 this week. Kansas will go head to head against Purdue in their sweet 16 appearance in hopes of keeping their run going. Playing Purdue could uncover an absence of front-court, but the Jayhawk’s guards are ready to push the tempo and draw fouls in order to get to the free throw line. Purdue hopes to keep the Kansas starting lineup quiet but it will be a difficult task, as all five starters are averaging double digits in the month of March.

Kansas isn’t the only dominant team in the tournament this year, as another 1 seed UNC is a +500 favorite to win. Although UNC handled Texas Southern in the first round without a problem, things got a little shaky in the second. UNC came from behind in the final minutes to beat Arkansas. They hope to regroup after shooting an awful 38.1 percent from the floor and 29.4 percent from behind the arc. UNC also had a total of 17 turnovers and were fortunate that Arkansas played just as badly. A major key for UNC in the rest of the tournament will be getting Joel Berry back on the court more, as he suffered an ankle injury and hasn’t looked like himself during March Madness.

The most interesting region so far in the tournament has been the East. Both Villanova and Duke lost in the second round which leaves any of the teams still standing a good chance to make it to the Final Four. Florida looked strong after they handily beat Virginia, holding the Cavaliers to only 39 points. Their strong defense also gives them an advantage over the other Eastern teams.
