Why You Should Be Listening to Smino
It seems like now there are new artists everyday, and many of them may not catch your eye, but Smino will catch your eye right away. If it isn’t from his unusual name or the beautiful album/mixtape covers, his sound should definitely catch your attention. Chris Smith Jr. Is from St. Louis, Missouri. With 2 EP’s and recently releasing his debut album “Blkswn,” he has established himself as a unique artist who has a promising future.
Much of the album is about living in St. Louis and the experiences that come with it. He wants people from St. Louis to be heard, and wants to be the floodgate for those people. He also said how he wants to start a movement from St. Louis, but on “a positive note.” This young artist believes that there is more to his city than what others think. He describes St. Louis by saying how it “sounds like midnight at the Riverfront at all times to me. It’s slowed down but turned up.” Smino is dedicated to his city, remembering where and what he came from. Now, through music, he is bringing more positive attention to St. Louis. Hopefully more people will listen to rappers from his city, which is one of his ultimate goals.
A promising, young artist, who loves his city is on the rise. Mixing hip-hop, jazz, funk, blues, and other genres, Smino is creating a unique sound and hopefully you will be one to listen to him and other St. Louis artists.
