Last Wednesday, February 14th, marked an extraordinary day at John Jay High School as students, staff, parents, and volunteers came together to celebrate the first-ever Culture Day. Although organized by BEAT, this event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support and dedication of everyone involved.
Throughout the day, students had the chance to participate in various workshops. From cannoli-making to learning bachata, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Meanwhile, the cafeteria came alive with musical performances by talented John Jay students, including Varriale and the orchestra.
One of the highlights of Culture Day was the diverse display of cultural set ups around the cafeteria. Tables from different parts of the world showcased aspects of individual cultures, including food, music, dance, traditional clothing, history, and more. It was a truly immersive experience, allowing our school to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultures within our community.
Culture Day provided an open space for students to learn and embrace the diversity that makes John Jay unique. As we reflect on this day, we anticipate what next year will bring. We hope that it will be just as successful, and we look forward to continuing this tradition of celebrating diversity and fostering inclusivity at John Jay High School.
