In regard to his project, he was given the option to decide what exactly he wanted to do. He opted to help make the school livelier by purchasing tables and planting bushes in the courtyard near the library.
Tyler comments that “the area over there looked really dead and just not beautiful,” and he wanted to “spice it up a little bit, give it the TG twist.”
He also expresses his disappointment regarding John Jay’s recent safety policies, in which most of the doors are locked from the outside, making it much more difficult to access the courtyard, as well as many other areas of the school. “It’s kind of a shame they made it so you can’t go through the doors anymore and you have to walk all the way around.”
Tyler claims that “the theme of this project was overcoming challenges,” and that he had to get the school and the board to formally accept all his donations.
He mentions that it would have been much easier if he could give these gifts without any commotion, and states that “I had to go through a lot to get it approved, and a lot of the people were really nice,” but that there was one guy from the Scouts committee who gave him a lot of trouble, but Tyler persisted.
Tyler adds that “it really helps me out and I hope it helps the school out, I put blood, sweat, and tears into this project.” He spent “over 50 hours” on the project altogether.
Recently, Tyler has been expressing concern that not enough people are aware of the project and haven’t taken notice of the newly added decorations in the courtyard.
