Houston Astros Win Game 7 of ALCS, Advance to World Series
Wow! On Saturday night the Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees in game seven of the American League Championship Series at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. For Yankees fans, it was a difficult game to watch. The Houston Astros dominated the entire game, winning 4-0.
Pitching became the major differentiator between the two teams. Not living up to his previous success in the playoffs, Yankees’ C.C. Sabathia gave up 5 hits and 1 run before the end of the fourth inning. Tommy Kahnle later replaced Sabathia, only to give up 4 more hits and 3 more runs. The Astros’ pitching was clearly more dominant. Charlie Morton was able to pitch 5 innings for 2 hits and not allowing any runs. Lance McCullers Jr. closed out the game for the Astros, letting up 1 hit and no runs.
The series was notable because each team was only able to win at home. Additionally, 4 of the games were decided by 4 runs or more. This has been typical of the Yankees throughout the playoffs this year. They were only able to win 1 game on the road and it was against the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS, and their play has been wildly inconsistent throughout the playoffs.
The Houston Astros will advance to the 2017 World Series, where they will face the Los Angeles Dodgers. This World Series may be as exciting as the last: the Astros have never won a World Series and the Dodgers last won it in 1988.
