John Jay Baseball Season Preview

Coming off of a section championship victory last year against the Brewster Bears, the John Jay Indians baseball team is looking to have just as strong of a season this year. This year, the Indians are missing key players from last year such as Chase Borowitz, Justin Drpich, and Eman Giumarra. Although these players had important roles in the success of the team, younger players such as Brendan Carberry, Ryan Bryggman, and Brett Paulson are willing to take on these positions. The Indian’s success last season was rooted in their star pitching and defense. Some believe that it will be hard for the Indians to be as successful this season as last previous years due to their younger roster, though Junior pitcher, Brendan Carberry, has faith in the team: “We do not want to look at this year as a drop off year because we have too much talent for that to be the case. Knowing how good our coaches are, we will all be ready come spring.” Key returning players include Brendan Carberry, Ryan Bryggman, Tyler Hunsberger, Cameron Falino, Alex Bell, Alex Kohlhagen, Matt Hegarty, Greg Patti, Brett Paulson, Stephen Fisher, Joe Biancone, Michael Gaglioti, and Matt McMahon. The Indians have some of the best coaching in Westchester as well, led by Geoff Curtis, Chris McCarthy, Joe Guadio, and Mark Mammola. In the offseason, the team has been practicing every week and most of the team has been training in the weight room. The Indians have been working extremely hard since the start of the offseason and have their eyes on another section title this year.
