What Impacts Does the Presidential Election Have on Education?
This year’s presidential election has already had a profound impact on various aspects of American lives– aspects that potential voters, like myself, aren’t yet aware of. One major concern of current and future voters alike is for our country’s youth, more specifically, their education. Speaking as a high school Junior, the results of this election will directly affect my class and our collegiate experience. Although I am not yet able to vote, I feel as though it is every American’s civic duty to inform themselves on matters that directly influence their future. So, what exactly is the 2016 presidential election offering to hard-working high school students?
Well, as we are all aware, there are currently two primary candidates running for President. Mr. Donald Trump and Secretary Hillary Clinton both offer substantial benefits for hard-working students across the country. Regardless of their political stand points, both candidates seem to have an overwhelming concern about this topic, each going out of his or her way to make statements on behalf of America’s youth.
When speaking in an article published by the New York Times, Mr. Trump states:
“As president, I will establish the national goal of providing school choice to every American child living in poverty,” Mr. Trump said. “If we can put a man on the moon, dig out the Panama Canal and win two world wars, then I have no doubt that we as a nation can provide school choice to every disadvantaged child in America.”
Clearly, education and diversity are definite concerns for Mr. Trump, as the task about which he speaks is almost insurmountable. Evidently, Mr. Trump will ensure every poverty-stricken child in America the right to an education of their choice– something that has almost never been addressed prior to this statement.
As for Secretary Clinton, one of the most prominent aspects of her website and overall campaign are the words, “Hillary will make debt free college available to everyone and take on student loan debt.” This would be one of the most miraculous and humane actions our government would ever take to benefit our youth’s access to education.
Regardless of one’s background, ethnicity, or religion, both candidates seem to recognize something that can easily slip the minds of even the most renowned politicians: American children deserve the right to education.
