It has been a long off-season for Yankee fans. After losing to their rival’s, The Boston Red Sox in the 2018 ALDS and then seeing them go on to win the World Series made October a tough month. Luckily, the wait is over and Yankees Baseball is back again. The Yankees opened there new campaign against the Baltimore Orioles at 1:05 PM, at home in the Bronx. The Yankees already are facing many challenges as their ace pitcher Luis Severino is out until May, and there superstar shortstop, Didi Gregorius underwent Tommy John surgery keeping him out until early September and possibly the whole season. However, the Yankees look to overcome the challenges that the season will bring and Win the 2019 World Series

Masahiro Tanaka took the mound for the Yankees replacing the injured Luis Severino. His first inning to the new season was a strong one. Allowing no runs on, just one hit. Last season, the Yankees broke the record for most homeruns in a single season. This was led by power hitters, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. The Yankees are looking to break the record they made last year. In the bottom of the first, after two singles by Judge and Stanton, Yankees DH and First Baseman, Luke Voit clobbered a three run home run towards dead center. Following the home run, Masahiro Tanaka pitched two more scoreless innings until giving up his first run on a two out single by Orioles third baseman Rio Ruiz.

After coming off a all-star season, the Yankees second year players Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres look to add to their already outstanding careers. Just liked they finished both players started the year hot by picking up and RBI. Tanaka went on to pitch five and two-thirds innings allowing only 1 run on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Greg Bird put an exclamation point on the day buy hitting a home run into the Yankees bullpen.

The New York Yankees season opened up with an impressive 7-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. After winning 100 games last year the Yankees look to reach their goal as the chase for 28 World Series wins continues.
