After taking a tough loss to Lakeland in the 2017 quarterfinal, John Jay Baseball seeks revenge in next years season.

With seniors Alex Kohlhagen and Matt Hegarty heading off to college, John Jay baseball is going to rely on Binghamton commit Ryan Bryggman and star sophomores Joe Biancone and Brett Paulson to carry the team to have another successful season. The team is coach by veteran Geoff Curtis, who has been with the team for many years, and his results are consistent. John Jay’s program has been strong for years, and when star players leave for college, other students are able to rise up and fill the position.

Next years season looks promising. With the majority of the starting lineup looking to be all seniors, the team is hoping to make a run for the section chip. “Everyone’s pulling in the same direction,” says junior stud Ryan Bryggman, “and we all are hoping to go further than the chip; we want to win states.” Ryan performed well throughout the season. With 59 strikeouts over 46 ⅔ innings pitched, he continues to make a name for himself in the section. “He’s a feared pitcher in our section. No one wants to face him because they know the talent he brings to the table and how hard it is to keep up with him,”  says junior Jonathan Preddice, a likely starter for the 2018 year. Power is also brought to the plate from both Joe Biancone and Brett Paulson. Both sophomores had an outstanding season, driving in runs and both batting over .380. Along with Paulson and Biancone, John Schwoerer is a developing athlete with many tools, helping the team fill in all spots around the field; and he has a bat.

All around, next year’s season for the baseball team looks good. Paired with a solid pitching rotation and powerful hitters, the baseball team will hopefully be successful.
