CROSS RIVER, NY

Yesterday, the John Jay wrestling team defeated Yorktown in a dual meet hosted by the Huskers, moving them one step closer to Sectionals.

The final score of the meet was 65 to 15, in John Jay’s favor. This meet was just one of many that John Jay wrestling faces on their hunt for the Section and State titles.

“I majored my kid. You major someone when you win by eight or more, and I won 11-1”, said Matt Kramer, a junior on the John Jay wrestling team. “…it was an easy win for our team.”

Matt Kramer is optimistic in the future of the 2016/17 wrestling season as he states, “We have eight returning all section wrestlers which is the most out of any other team in the section, and we have a solid lineup this year so we’re confident that we can win Sectionals again and do well at States.”

John Jay’s biggest threat in their meets to come is Long Beach, who is ranked #1 in the state. However with the talent on the roster of this year’s team, John Jay is ready to prove themselves in an upset win.

After the holiday break, John Jay will have 10 more dual meets and 6 more tournaments before Sectionals. Best of luck to John Jay in the rest of their season.
